Charm anklet
But Diane comes close to walking away with the show, partly thanks to the great lines and controlling role that playwright Douglas Carter Bean created for her. The other part belongs to Erika Rolfsrud, whose performance as Diane crackles with confidence.
Diane represents Mitchell (Chad Allen), an actor on the verge of a big movie career. She won't let anything get in the way, certainly not his slight recurring case of homosexuality. When Mitchell meets Alex (Mark Fisher), a hustler with exceptional charm and a surprising penchant for honesty, things threaten to fall apart. Well, not on Diane's watch.
Allen and Fisher develop a nice rapport (abetted with a little nudity - this show isn't for everyone). But when Rolfsrud steps on stage, she's a jolt of caffeine. Whether she's describing the hypocrisy of an awards banquet, talking to a difficult client on the phone or zestfully reciting the terms of a contract, Rolfsrud makes Diane one of the liveliest figures on stage in ages
Our records show 981 cars entered the park that morning between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., the time that the event was officially cancelled, 151 of those had Texas State Park passes.
At this past year's event, the last balloon didn't leave the Canyon until nearly 11 a.m., allowing plenty of time for people to enter and see the balloons.
Of course we were limited by the fact that Texas Highway 217 leading into the park is a two lane road, the park has a small entrance gate, and once in the park, the park road is still a two-lane road, with one lane going down the Canyon.
The park was built by Civilian Conservation Corps workers in the 1930s, and those features are part of the draw and charm of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, as well as being protected by state law.
My staff and I do the very best that we can to ensure all of our visitors have a positive experience, and we take it strongly to heart when we are told that have failed in any way.
If we disappointed our patrons by our actions, we apologize
