Child charms

ONE of West Cumbrias most remote pubs has been named the pub of the season.
The Woolpack Inn, Eskdale, is owned by Dave Bailey and Ann Wedgwood and has won the accolade of Pub of the Season for Autumn 2008 by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).
Part of the inns charm, say judges, is in its quiet setting and closeness to some of Lakelands best fell walks, including Scafell Pike.
After experimenting with beers from around the country, the Woolpack now only sells beers from Cumbrian microbreweries.
And three years ago, Dave set up the Hardknott brewery on the pub premises, and the first brew was supped at Christmas 2005. There are usually two from their own range of seven beers on sale at any time

'It feels like you're at home here. That's the charm of an Irish pub,' he said. 'People who go to Providence and Boston should realize that they can stay right in town.'
Hibernia opened quietly in October but is planning its grand opening at AHA! tonight. For more information, call (508) 984-HIBE (4423).
